MAASAI TRIBE OF KENYA
20 WOMEN FROM THE MAASAI TRIBE OF KENYA...
...were trained in April by Justine Odhiambo and Rosemary Okumu teaching in Kiswahili with Translation into maasai. They taught the "Scriptures in Use - Bridges for Women" curriculum. Classes were held in the village of Noositok Kajaido. Update Jan. 2011
60 more women added to the Church after the "Bridges for Women" training.
In June, an SIU partner ministry, Unite4Africa sent a follow up team to visit the women who had been trained in April.
At this leadership meeting they were able to hear directly from these women. The Unite4Africa team listened to the stories of these courageous women as they painted a picture of the life of a Maasai woman.
Women freely shared their experiences. “This storytelling has helped a lot”, said one sister. “The problem we are facing is that most of us don’t know how to read so we can’t read the Bible. But now because of the training I have seen the people really understand the Bible.”
The women of the Maasai culture face many difficulties. It is said that in their culture women do 80% of the work.
They provide the education, food, shelter, care and more. “We are very busy,” say the women. But in the midst of life’s chaos and busyness and hard work, these women are thirsty for the Word of God.
Unite4Africa is committed to help them on this journey.
